Cable-laid slings which are mainly utilized in the offshore heavy lifting industry. It is a specific wire rope assembly consisting of steel wire rope strands which are helically twisted around a steel core wire. This core wire serves as support and helps to avoid contact between the strands when the rope is loaded.
A cable-laid grommet is a sling in the form of a continuous/endless loop. Grommets consists of 6 wire rope strands twisted around a core wire. Unlike a cable-laid rope, a grommet is produced from one single length of steel wire rope. The ends of the wire rope are tucked into the grommet through a splicing process in order to form the core. All this is done by hand. The use of grommets are similar to that of cable-laid slings.
