Executed to the full technical satisfaction of the client.

During the winter season of 2015-2016 the owners of the jack up vessel “Brave Tern” nominated Franklin Offshore Europe BV to execute some major upgrades on the most essential parts of their vessel. All four legs were extended with 14m. The works were executed at the Franklin premises in the Heysehaven at a height of 50 to 60m above waterline. The extensions consist of a S690QL tubular section of 145mTon with a wall thickness of 83mm.

Besides the leg extensions the Franklin Operations department de-reeved the crane and lifted off the main boom and A-frame of the 800ton Gusto crane. Both items were brought into our workshop where the Franklin Fabrication department prepared the main boom for an insert truss (20m boom elongation). The A-frame was extended to be prepared for the long-boom modus of the crane. Onboard modifications were made to the boom rest, which also lead to some works inside the accommodation, as well as modifications to the block pockets.

Once the A-frame and crane boom were ready they were reinstated onboard and the crane was reeved with new crane wire ropes.

The whole project was executed to the full technical satisfaction of the client as well as DNV-GL.
